DESCRIPTION
T.small
helend stands a couple of inches above average height, and is thickly muscled from his many years spent tn the wilderness and in combat. He has auburn colored hair and beard and kind, yet sad hazel eyes. He does not speak often, but when he does his deep voice resounds with a subtle inner strength. He is garbed in a thick mammoth fur cloak, and wears Luminiad Breastplate armor expertly crafted by the Dwarves of Amath Grall. Likewise, Thelend bears the massive sword Ergolan, a Luminiad Giantsbane Bastard sword, also crafted by the Dwarves of Amath Grall.

BACKGROUND

helend grew up upon the foothills located just east of Thunland Dell. His father, Norlend, was a sheep herder, and hence so too was Thelend during his youth. His mother, Uldra, had died early in Thelend’s childhood. When Thelend was just into his teens, a series of Wyvern attacks steadily impoverished his fathers herd. Norlend decided to sell his remaining cattle in order to purchase a couple of quality swords for he and Thelend, and join the local militia. Thelend’s formative years were spent learning the arts of sword craft and peacekeeping. While Thelend was initially shy and quite by temperament, he was also tall and broad and possessed of great strength. That, combined with well disciplined yet easy manner, hardy laugh, and shepherd like care for both his comrades and community, quickly won him the respect of both his comrades and his commander. When Thelend was seventeen he and three other enlisted men smote a mated pair of ogres that had been thieving cattle from some local herdsman. Thelend was wounded early on but fought courageously and earned himself the title of “valiant herdsman.”

Soon after his lieutenant died of a heart attack, Thelend, though barely into his twenties, was promoted to the title of Lieutenant by Captain Mendubith, the commander of Thunlend Dell’s militia and the only Knight of the Ram that the town boasted. Moreover, not having any children of his own upon whom to bestow his title, Mendubith took on the able Thelend as a squire and became like a second father to him. After several years of service in which Thelend continued to distinguish himself, mendubith sent Thelend on a quest intended to show his readiness for entry into knighthood. Thelend oversaw a party of ten enlisted men commissioned to retrieve whatever artifacts were recoverable from the ruins of Ondur.Unknown to Mendubith, a sect of the Cult of Thyrn had taken up residence within the ruins and were busy sacrificing mortals and spawning undead in preparation for the rising of their patron deity, Genicron. Thelend and his men were quickly overwhelmed and succumb to Sleep spells. When Thelend awoke he was imprisoned deep within the ruins. One of the leaders of the sect, a fatherly man by the name of Father Durrand, explained to him the nature of the sect and their aspirations in hopes of winning Thelend over as a convert. Those who would not convert would be sacrificed before the shrine of Genicron. Thelend would not yield and so endeavored to violently resist the sect until the bitter end. His deepest regret however was that he had led his comrades, some of them friends of his youth, to such a shameful death.Unforeseen by all was the appearance of the Four Horns, another adventuring party after ancient artifacts. This stalwart band managed to infiltrate the ruins, vanquish its undead and unholy clergy and free Thelend and a handful of other prisoners. However, Thelend found, as he had feared, that it was too late for his comrades: they had been sacrificed to Genocron. Thelend helped the Horns secure the ruins and led the liberated prisoners to safety before returning home to Thunlend Dell in disgrace.Due to his (albeit understandable) failure at Ondur, Thelend was not Knighted upon his return. However Mendubith would not allow his squire to dwell long upon his failure but sent him off quickly to rejoin the Horns in order to assist them in their quest to uncover lost artifacts of the Dwarves within Etimar. Upon his success there, Mendubith would knight Thelend. The failure at Ondur, and the loss of his comrades has scarred Thelend and has greatly marred his confidence in his ability to command. He has regressed to the shy, introverted self that once herded sheep upon the Downs. However he has not let fear cripple him. In fact he has become, if anything, more protective of his comrades than before. While he no longer feels his own strength and would not run headlong into combat if it could be avoided, he will follow his comrades to the bitter end, preferring rather to offer his own body a shield rather than witness the fall of his comrades.
